The Costume
by Richard LeDue

Tried it on first, made sure
no overly loose sleeves,
changing room locked,
right as a coffin.
My limbs like fingers,
grab onto cloth,
eager to drop
shirts that shrink after one wear,
jeans missing brilliant fashion
designer cuts in each leg- price paid
long before lining up at the self-checkout.
