not everything is as it seems
by Linda M. Crate
on all hallow's eve
i can finally show the world who i am
not that any will believe
they think i am something
only found in literature and ancient mythology,
but they don't know the myths of me or their truths;
i am a damphyr
not quite human and not entirely beast
something that is a shade lingering between the pair—
my father was a monster and my mother wasn't,
and so i am here carrying the weight
of both humanity and monsters;
some believe only what their eyes can show them
but i know there are shades between
and there are things the heart knows which eyes cannot decipher—
not everything is black and white
there are many hues beyond and between
in this universe not everything is what it seems.
