guard your soul
by Linda M. Crate

all hallow's eve

day where the monsters play

mingling dead with the living,

and if you look at them

sometimes you cannot tell the difference;

there are some that choose death before their time

others are dead and choose to live—

there will be dancing, candles,

mayhem, screams, candies, alcohol;

no one will be any the wiser

because no one believes monsters are real

yet humans aren't the only monsters

in the universe

there are things beyond them—

just because you don't believe in something

doesn't make it any less real,

and just because you are ignorant of a thing

doesn't mean it can't and won't haunt you;

the veil is thinning

guard your soul.
